About our Speakers:
Ms Naomi Tutu. Ms Tutu is
the child of Archbishop Desmond Tutu born in South Africa has
had opportunities to be the voice and champion for dignity of
all. She has been a consultant and program coordinator on race
and gender education. And she has taught two universities in the
US. As a much sought after speaker she has lead many workshops
ad programs across the US in dealing with many issues.
Mary Beth Newman President
CMSA, MSN,RN-BC,CMAC,CCP,CCM: Mary Beth Newman is program
manager for Wellmont,INC. working with transplant and bariatric
programs. Her experience includes developing, implementing and
evaluating targeted populations based on case management
programs
Joan Randall Assistant
Professor: Asst Professor, Medical Education &
Administration, Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Executive
Director, Tennessee Obesity Taskforce. A research analyst at
Shaping America’s Youth which is a collaboration created by
the Surgeon general to form a National Action Plan addressing
childhood and adolescent obesity.
Dr. Stephen Boyce: Dr
Boyce graduated with BS & MS from Texas A & M University
then medical school at University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Scholl. Surgery residency performed at Parkland. He and his
family have been in Knoxville since 1992 and performed thousands
of weight loss procedures. The New Life Center for Bariatric
Surgery began in 2002 and is one of the nation’s first Center
of Excellence in 2005.
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
- Increase your understanding of strategies
for healthy eating and active living in all sectors of
Tennessee. And learn specific strategies to address
increasing physical activity and healthy eating.
- Become knowledgeable of what individual case managers
can do to "improve" and acknowledge the need for
sensitive caring approach to bariatric and weight loss
issues faced by a growing number of clients.
- Understand the impact of poverty and oppression on human
life and what opportunities and challenges this can lead
to. Working to learn methods of conflict resolution with
in different groups
- Learn strategies to negotiate working with the complex
client.
- Understand vendor resources to help Case Managers work
in conjunction with other Health Care Providers.
- Gain better understanding of challenges
facing the future of case management
